U2 - No Line on the Horizon

Along with REM, U2 was one of the influential bands that helped me develop my taste in music. We can all agree that the earlier U2 is the best U2. However, the band has quite a few gems sprinkled through their discography since their late eighties heyday. I’ve always been willing to give them a chance because of my love for that early stuff. I root for them to be good. I meet every new album with enthusiasm, hoping it’ll be at least better than the last.
Last year I saw the U2 3D concert film. It game me goosebumps. U2 is one of the last big acts that I have never seen live. I love big spectacles. I love much of their catalog. I WILL see them live. The unfortunate part is that it’ll probably be when they’re touring in support of this piece of shit.
Honestly, the more I think about this album, the angrier I get. Bono & Company had four years off, FOUR YEARS!!! It’s the longest they’ve taken between albums. They worked with Rick Rubin and Brian Eno…and this is what we get?!! C’mon!
What does it sound like? Let me tell you. It’s like U2 trying to sound like Coldplay trying to sound like U2. It’s bland and derivative.
I rest my case.
